From the Bearsted Parish council website:

The long and the short and the tall ... they were all there, as were almost 100 older members of the Bearsted community.

The parish council rolled out the red carpet and hung up the bunting at the WI Hall for its over 60s, treating them to a free afternoon out at a good old-fashioned Victorian Music Hall.

The Players Theatre Club from Bloomsbury brought along Pearly King Peter John and guest artistes including Miss Julia Sutton, Miss Helen Watson and multi-talented musician Mr Andy Eastwood.

We have re-created the Players’ Theatre Club, and have merged our charitable company (The Players’ Joys) into a charity to provide a wider range of interests in the Entertainment and Educational field,  the resulting company  being renamed Entertainment Heritage.

The revived club intends not only to present shows at regular intervals (see ‘Our shows’, but also to audition, train and provide performance opportunities to new artistes. These new artistes will be able to revive some of the great acts that would otherwise have been lost, had we not catalogued some 5,000 songs saved from the music archives of the original Players’ Theatre.

We plan to include news from our artistes, to give them some additional publicity and also to underline the professionalism that we are able to draw on.

Martin Witts, proprietor of the Leicester Square Theatre,  and a longstanding friend of the Players' Theatre, has just opened an exciting Museum of Comedy in Bloomsbury, London. The museum occupies the crypt of St George's church and includes a theatrical space called the Cooper Room, after Tommy Cooper. We anticipate using the room for some of our future events and will provide an update shortly.
